City Tiers Revamp

Recently, we've launched a revamp of the City Tier requirements. We've done this for several reasons and feel with these changes, we can allow for much more creativity, originality, and diversity within cities. We've taken out many specific numbers and minimums, and are now focusing on features that will attract new citizens to your towns from both the requirements and perks.

We realize that many of you may not be 100% satisfied with the changes we've made, so please feel free to share your thoughts with us. We welcome feedback and criticism. If you feel something is wrong or nonsensical, now is the time to tell us.

To all current city-owners: You will not lose any progress from this change. For example, if you are Tier II you will remain Tier II, you may however need to adjust a few things before being able to progress further.

Minecraft 1.5.2 is out - Update now

If you can't connect to Winthier, it is because we have updated but you haven't. Just restart your Minecraft client and click Yes when it asks you if you would like to update.

New Spawn

As many of you may have picked up on, the admins and a small group of people have been very busy over the past few weeks with building a new spawn for the server. You can see the result of this effort now by typing the familiar "/spawn" command.

Personally, I loved the old spawn, and I'm sure most of us felt that way. It contained all the features that a center point for our server needed and was created with an outstanding style, nowhere else to be found and with amazing details to look at.

However, there were some practical issues with it that were hard to foresee and we tried to address this time around. For the services it provided, old spawn turned out too large so that key locations were hard to find for new players and hard to explain directions to for experienced members. That and the difficult terrain made it hard to see on our HD map.

So with this new attempt, we started from scratch and went for a complete redesign. The new theme choice is the timber framing style which can be found in the historic centers of central European cities. You can find everything that was at the old spawn, only in a new location. There are farms for trees and foods, museums for staff and server features and of course travel stations for dragon flights and teleports.

Rank Perks Revision

Our ranking system is there to ensure that players who have been around for a while, achieve great things in the game and contribute to the community are getting the appreciation they deserve. It is also a basic protection mechanism to make sure ill willed people can't do too much harm if they have just joined Winthier.

Recently we felt like the respective rewards do not adequately represent the trust we have in you. This is why we decided to add at least one distinct bonus to each promotion that makes it worth striving for. Thus, each rank has received more perks, so most of you should have more abilities. Here is a list of all the new additions to the rank perks.

Exalted

Get one extra home

Astral

Use Block Hat
Use Scuba Kit
Get one extra home

Celestial

Get a Dragon Travel home

This changes the total amount of homes you can set as an Exalted to three, as an Astral even four! The latter also received the Block Hat and Scuba Kit which can otherwise only be obtained by purchasing the corresponding packages in our Contributions Shop.

Speaking of which, we have added many old and new contribution packages. Disguises for almost all the mobs in the game can be purchased again for a small contribution. New packages include a permanent Feed the Beast pass as well as a WorldEdit perk. With this change, Win+ has received a major buff. As a Win+ member you now not only have access to WinFTB, you also get the most of all the other contribution packages. The perks include:

Join the Winthier Feed the Beast server.
Access to a special Win+ subforum on our forums.
A fancy + behind your rank in the game for everyone to see.
Increase your flight speed in Creative.
Extend your block limit in Creative.
Use Sign Colors to use colors on signs.
Use Block Hat to wear arbitrary blocks as hats.
Use the Scuba Kit to breathe underwater while wearing a pumpkin.
Use most of the available Mob Disguises. For a complete list, check out the shop.

The Great Egg Hunt

Happy Easter everyone! Today marks the beginning of our Springtime Event here on Winthier. Similar to last year, we will be having an egg hunt. This event will span over the course of ten days. From March 21st to the 31st. One egg will be put out every day for you to find. When that day's egg is sent out, the event thread will update with a special clue to help you find it. Please note that each egg is unique in appearance. Each egg has a special code inside. The first person to post the code, or a screenshot of this code in this forum thread will receive the prize for that egg. Please remember to do this as soon as you have found the egg- or someone else may claim it before you!

Do not post the code here. Post it in the event thread or it will not count.

Egg prizes may vary from money, to diamonds, to spawn eggs, or even donation packages. If no one is able to find the egg for that day, it will remain somewhere on the map until it is found. All of the eggs are visible on both the HD Map and the Live Map, so we encourage you to search high and low- it will not be easy! There will be nine eggs in total to find, and something special on the tenth day. We wish all of you the best of luck, and happy hunting! :)

PokéMob - Gotta catch'em all!

Gotta catch'em all! We just introduced a new and exclusive feature to the Winthier: PokéMob. This plugin allows you to catch any mob with splash potions, carry them around with you and release them wherever you like. You can even give them a name!

Catch 'em! All you need to do is get a Splash Potion of Slowness and throw it at the mob. If you are lucky, they will turn into a spawn egg item. Some mobs are tougher to catch than others. Most hostile mobs won't go in the egg unless they have taken some damage.
Release 'em! Click the spawn egg on the ground and the mob will pop up again. To put him back in, you need to catch him again with the potion.
Use 'em! Mobs in egg form add many new possibilities. Transporting mobs has never been easier. You can keep them safe, move them around, even sell them!
Make 'em your own! Pets will belong to whoever released them from their eggs. If you give the spawn egg a name on an anvil, the released mob will have that name on a plate above his head and never despawn.

Winthier is 1.5

I am happy to announce that the Winthier mainserver and Creative have been updated to 1.5, the "Redstone Update". This is the right time to update your clients.

The following changes are noteworthy:

Dragon Travel is temporarily unavailable. We will setup portals until it can come back.
The Nether has been reset, as promised. You can find all the Quartz you need there.
The Super Furnace was removed because it caused too many problems and you can easily recreate and even improve it now with hoppers.
The advanced railsystem was removed. The new minecart features are incompatible, and also better.
The oldworld is currently down. It will go online again later today.

Unscheduled Maintenance 3/16/2013

There will be an unscheduled maintenance starting today, 12:30pm server time (7:30am EST). Winthier and Creative will be unreachable for the duration. Winnilla and Feed the Beast will stay available. The reason is the 1.5 update. Thank you for your patience.

Minecraft 1.5 has just been released, but we can't update the server just yet because we have to run all the plugins that are there for your entertainment and protection.

It comes down to when Bukkit plus our plugins will be compatible with 1.5, which from experience may take a couple of days to a week.

If you update your client now, you will not be able to connect to Winthier until this happens, and might have a hard time downgrading.

Update: If you managed to update and want to downgrade, we provide a minecraft.jar for 1.4.7 here. If you don't know how that works, Sirabell made a video explanation about it a long time ago.

Update: Winnilla has just been upgraded to 1.5. Remember that the IP is winthier.com:4000. Keep in mind that this is an experimental build. Bad things may happen, so please bear with us. The mainserver will follow shortly.

Unleash the beast

It is time to unleash the beast on Winthier!

The latest and greatest addition to the Winthier network is WinFTB, a Feed The Beast server. FTB is a mod pack for Minecraft that adds many new mechanical and magical blocks and items, such as electrical machines, engines, pipes, magic wands and bee hives. It is an all-new challenge which even allows you to discover new worlds with new mobs, dungeons and bosses.

The access is limited to Win+ members for the time being. So if you have Win+, you can connect now to WinFTB via winthier.com:5000 with your FTB client.

To connect, download the latest launcher from feed-the-beast.com, login with your Minecraft username and password and launch the MindCrack Modpack.

Nether for everyone

As a result of today's maintenance, our issues with the Nether are fixed. You will once again be able to build your own portals and safely travel through them into the Nether. Please bear in mind that the Nether will still be reset after the 1.5 update, so we can have Nether Quartz.

A new new beginning?

Over the last year and some months a good 60+ hours have been put in the server(s) each week by me.

Everything has to come to and end and sadly here is mine.

However this is not the End of Winthier at all!

StarTux will be taking the position i previously ran. He will be in full control of the server and all assets of Winthier, all of you already know who he is and knows he will do a damn fine job replacing me.

I will keep this post short as it is merely information regarding this change. I will write a post later on, on my own wall when i get all my thougts sorted out for people who wish to read it.

I am not dissapearing, my real life has just changed to much so i need to put my priorities elsewhere, I will still roam the server but i am no longer the end of the contact line when you have problems or concerns.

City Tiers update + new perks!

We have updated our city tiers to reflect the new map!

The wall requirement has been cut down significantly so it should be easiere for people to complete.

Be sure to check out all the requirements HERE.

Loads of new perks:

Tier1:

Your city, your rules. Rules may contradict server rules; however this must be clarified with the admins in advance. This allows you to customize the rules as you want.

Tier2:

Bank will receive buy/sell signs
May request free protection blocks to protect the city.
Dragon Travel from your city to a destination of your choise "maximum 2000 blocks away"!
1 week of Win+ for each founder/mayor

Tier3:

Can request a world edit perk, you can chose between land clearing, a copy/paste or an outline of the city wall in glass.
May request a subforum for the city on the website.
1 month of Win+ for each founder/mayor

Tier4:

Portal destinations set by the admins. You will get a portal from spawn to your city, a portal from your city to the XP-farm and two free portals with destinations you choose, which can be entered from your portal hub. You may also save the two extra portals for later use. These portals will only be set once, and cannot be altered later on. You cannot choose to have a portal set to the end.
Your 50x50 build can be turned into a MobArena"allowing you to design 5 unique classes for your arena/PVPArena/SpleefArena/PaintballArena - fully supported by server plugins for easy use/ join / restoring arena after battle.
2 months of Win+ for each founder/mayor

Tier5:

Your village will receive free villagers.
Custom chat channel (like global chat) with the town name that mayors can moderate and design with the colors they choose.
Custom end portal for free offered by the admins.
3 free months of Win+ for each founder/mayor of the city
Unique Title with the name of your city you can use instead of your rank prefix ex: Cityname is Orbit and your rank is Exalted. instead of [Exalted]Yourname it will be [Orbit]Yourname. "may be shortened if city name is to long"

Tier6:

The title "City Establisher" on the Winthier forums.
Complete WorldGuard protection for the entire city with custom flags such as no mobs, no explosions. Look up WorldGuard flags to find what you want for your city. (Some restrictions may apply, i.e. no PVP enabled)
A city promotion on the front page of the website. You may write the text and provide pictures yourself if you wish but it may be altered before being posted by the admins.
Each of the 4 founders may request two donation packages of 10 dollars each free of charge.
Permanent Win+ subscribtion for Founders/Mayors who have been part of all 6 tiers.
Founders/Mayors heads get placed in a monument at spawn with a portal to the city.
Dragon Travel from spawn to your city with a route of your choise.

MobArena And Win+

MobArena has now been on the server for a little while and people seem to be enjoying it immensly regardless of the stress some of the waves may give people!

A little guideline for MA

/ma join - Lets you join the mobarena "your inventory and position will be saved so you can safely return to where you where after the battle

/ma spec - Allows you to spectate the arena if a battle is in progress

/ma notready - Lets you see who did not yet hit the Iron block to get flagged as ready

Win+ Is a new niche rank, giving special perks for those willing to commit a little extra to the server.

Win+ is a subscribtion based pay rank.

Grants you:

- Private forum on the website where you can be part of "behind the scene" discussions

- /limit 10000 <- Gives you 10.000 (10 times!) the normal amount of worldedit blocks on the Creative server

- /flyspeed 1-10 <- Allows you to toggle your fly speed up to 10 times the speed normally available.

- Access to private test servers, be able to join the test servers we are working on before they normally open!

- Allows you to use /pl ingame to check our plugins currently on the server

- A Fancy + in front of your name ingame to let people know you support the server!

Remember that all profit goes directly back to the server for hardware upgrade/payments, which is why we are able to run multiple servers and constantly pump out new features for everyone to enjoy!

Build Contest - its been to long!

It is that time again, we are calling out to the community to help us with your amazing creativity!

The build: An arena!

Rules for the build:

- It must be made on the creative server in your plot. - if your plot is currently filled. contact an admin and we will assign one for you

- The arena can be as big as you want "but fit inside your plot", but not smaller than 50x50.

- You are allowed to have obsticalls/different levels on the arena floor.

- The arena will be placed near spawn so make it so it will fit into that environment.

- EVERYONE can participate!

- There must be an arena floor, a lobby where people can choose their class, and a spectator area.

- You can team up and build together. "note that the price will be split then"

You can use /plotme comment to help others out by pointing out stuff in their build "Constructrive criticism"

Prices:

30$ worth of stuff in the donation shop
20$ worth of stuff in the donation shop
10$ worth of stuff in the donation shop

Each contest entry will get a "goodie" chest with some random stuff as a thank you. "note that you are only eligable for this if we can see some effort is put into the build"

The contest will end February the 14th. at 24:00 Server time!
